How to Add an Amp to a Yamaha with AAV (No Cutting)

Want more volume from your Yamaha's factory speakers, or room to add a sub? If your boat has the Aquatic AV (AAV) system, you can add an aftermarket amp without cutting or splicing a single factory wire. Here's how it works, what you need, and how to check your boat first.

Step 1: Confirm your boat has the AAV amp

In our fitment data, the Aquatic AV amp is in the 2022–2025 Yamaha AR250 (Yamaha part F4Y-U81AM). Look for a silver finned box labeled AQUATIC AV and F4Y-U81AM-20.

Not every Yamaha uses AAV. The 2021 AR250 and many other Yamaha models (242X, 242XE, 222S/SE/XD/XE, 252SD/SE, 255XD, 275SD and more) use Wet Sounds HTX amps instead, and they need our Complete 4/6ch Harness Kit. The fastest way to check is to pick your year, make and model in Find your harness.

Step 2: Get the AAV harness set

The Yamaha Aquatic AV (AAV) Amp Harness is a plug-and-play input and output set:

  • Input harness: plugs in and gives you RCA signal and a remote turn-on lead for your new amp.
  • Output harness: plug-in speaker output wiring from the amp.
  • Need more length? Choose an extension of +1 ft to +10 ft ($10 per extra foot), or contact us for a custom length.

Step 3: Plan power for the new amp

A new amp needs its own power and ground. For a Yamaha with AAV, we recommend:

  • Amps staying at the helm: 20 ft power kit.
  • Full amp rack behind the bow seating: 25 ft power kit.

Wire size depends on total amp power and run length: 8 gauge for a 20 ft helm setup under 800W, 4 gauge from 800W or for any 25 ft run, and 1/0 (25 ft only) above 2,000W. Running two amps? Add a distribution block. Our Upgrade My System builder suggests the right kit as you pick amps.

Step 4: Plug it in

Everything is plug-and-play and the channels are labeled, so if you can reach your factory connectors, you can install it. No cutting, no splicing, no guessing.

Want to go back to stock?

Unplug the harnesses and your boat goes back to factory.
